The heart is the key to acceptance

“Change is the key that will open all doors for you, change of heart and mind…Simply know that every change which takes place is for the very best and for the good of the whole, whether they are personal changes, changes in the country, or in the world. Simply accept that these changes must come, and go along with them. Move forward and upward and accept that the best is yet to be.”
~ Eileen Caddy

How often we face change in our lives. Small changes, big changes, welcome changes and some which at first sight appear wholly unwelcome.

As we observe our own process working with and through change, we may notice that resistance can be a rampant albeit sometimes subtle part of that process. Resistance that is showcasing our tendency to want to hold onto the familiar even if it is less than perfect – as we know, sometimes, it can seem ‘safer’ than venturing into the unknown.

The heart, more particularly the consciousness and wisdom of the heart, takes a very different approach. The heart seeks first to hold everything without judging it. Through qualities of love, courage, wisdom, balance, compassion and acceptance we can first simply be with all that arrives. See it, hold it, open to it, allow it to be present within us, whatever the feelings, whatever the responses. Allow it all to be present without judgment.

For some this may sound all very passive but quite the reverse. Living in heart consciousness is a practice. It is a conscious act of will. It requires inner expansion and a deep level of calm and willingness to stay centred.

Acceptance doesn’t mean agreement. When we accept through the heart, we are seeing life as it is without distortion – our own or others. From this elevated consciousness we can as Eileen Caddy, Co-founder of Findhorn, says, ‘Move forward and upward and accept that the best is yet to be.’

If we entangle ourselves in all the distortions of change we remove our capability to see and embrace the best that will emerge from the change.

With this strong centre core of acceptance, the true insights and wisdom are then able to surface guiding us to the next steps along the path of change – personally, and where it is our function as leaders, with and on behalf of others.
