Bringing light

Start Reading

A walk in nature often leaves us awed at the beauty of creation. The perfection of leaves, of trees, of flowers. The springiness of some grasses. The perfume of flowers. The rustling of life unseen. The occasional scampering across our path of squirrel or rabbit, maybe even the shy stillness of a deer.

In these moments we are able to be truly present, to suspend all the other stuff churning in our head, to feel, uninterrupted, the power and beauty of nature in our hearts.

Stepping back into our daily lives, surrounded by others, by traffic, by the insistence of our phones, the demands of our work and life, can feel like a hard impact.

And yet, there is beauty in everything if we can learn to be present with it. Bringing joyous attention to the interactions we have with others, connecting heart to heart, recognising the beauty of another human soul elevates the quality of the interaction and them and us in the process.

If we can lift our gaze from the minutiae of the day to day and wonder at the system we are a part of, how it flows, how its parts interact, we start to see the interdependence and the intricate patterns. And in those patterns we can recognise beauty.

We can be present too in the most mundane of tasks, shifting them from ‘have tos’ to a fragment of our service to the world. We may think completing this work with a sigh matters little yet the energy of frustration is a drop in a bigger energetic ocean that ripples out and affects others unhelpfully.

The more we connect with the beauty in all that we encounter, the more we bring loving attention to all that we do, the more light we create and radiate, illuminating the way for others and contributing to a better world for all.
