All the wisdom in the world (and beyond)

Start Reading

It’s said that the natural world offers everything we need to cure all the diseases that ail humankind. Firstly we have to believe that to be true and then we just have to discover them. We might also surmise that we have all the knowledge we need to tackle the challenges facing our planet and all its inhabitants. If we look at the technological advances in human history and especially the past few decades this is likely true.

Wisdom, though, is another matter altogether. We have the intelligence and ingenuity but do we have the wisdom, the deep knowing to apply these capabilities in the right way…a way that serves the greater good and contributes to creating a better world for all.

Of course there’s the wisdom that comes from countless years of experience. We know what works and what doesn’t because we’ve been there, seen it, done it.

But we live in uncertain and volatile times where the problems are incredibly complex and often not ones we have encountered before. Tapping into conventional wisdom won’t cut it in this scenario. We must go much deeper and higher, finding our way to the universal wisdom that is available to all. This means being open to a higher wisdom – something greater than us individually.

This isn’t something we can buy. We must work our way towards it in meditative, reflective practice. Applying the discipline needed to create the space each day and quieten the mind, body and emotions, persisting even when these are hard to settle. This is easier for some of us than others but perseverance helps us open up our connection and awareness to this resource.

As our practice and connection strengthen we can begin to receive new insights though they may not come in an easily readable form or always in the moments of meditation. Rather they may show up in the midst of our daily activity as signs or symbols that take some deciphering, as a deep sense of knowing, as an overwhelming intuition. We wonder where this came from and yet we just know.

And then we have to have the courage to work with what we’ve received, applying that wisdom in our service.
