Daring to open the portal to new realities

Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, while imagination embraces the entire world.” – Albert Einstein

We place enormous value on concrete knowledge, treating it as the primary measure of intelligence. But knowledge has a fundamental limitation: it is static. It can only take us so far. Knowing that the UK has 69 million people conveys scale, but little else — and scale relative to what, exactly?

The real power of knowledge lies in how it can launch us beyond itself — into imagination. Yet we tend to confine imagination to the creative industries, the arts, or childhood play. As children, my friends and I would include imaginary people and water creatures in our play at the outdoor lido. Those 69 million expanded instantly — vivid, boundless, entirely real to us.

Einstein was right: imagination is a portal to new possibilities. It transcends data and known facts and is a resource available to every single person — not a gift reserved for artists or visionaries. It allows us to shape reality rather than simply describe it.

Imagination and creativity are also portals to a different kind of freedom — access to deeper knowing, to layers of truth and possibility that logic alone cannot reach. They break us free from the constraints of the rational mind and the structures that keep us operating small.

The imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” – Albert Einstein

Opening to new realities shifts something foundational in us. It reveals potential that remains invisible until we are willing to look beyond what is known — and to manifest what we can conceive. Like any skill, imagination strengthens with use. The more deliberately we engage it, the further beyond “merely possible” we can reach.

For leaders, this carries a specific responsibility: to move focus deliberately upward — from knowledge toward a higher-order knowing, one empowered by the imagination of new possibilities. This is how we become expansive and genuinely visionary — not just on the material level, but in terms of what kind of world and lives we are actually building.

Imagination is the preview – let’s use it with higher order intention.
