The heart that sees, listens, comprehends…

‘To behold with eyes of the heart, to listen with the ears of the heart to the roar of the world, to peer into the future with the comprehension of the heart; to remember the cumulations of the past through the heart; thus must one impetuously advance upon the path of ascent.’ Agni Yoga, Heart

What do we do when we have an unhelpful visceral reaction on meeting someone new and circumstances dictate we must spend time with them?  Imagine the recruitment interview, the new team member or the 360 feedback session. And in the world of work it’s not just the first time meetings where this arises.  There may be people we must interact with regularly where our resistance is strong. As conscious leaders, how do we transcend the all too human response?

I feel the extraordinary summation, at the start of this blog, of the power of synthesis of the heart truly lights the way…speaking, as it does, of the power of the heart to recognise all with love; to transcend the noise of our thoughts, emotions and judgements as well as the clutter and conditioning of the outside world; to approach the future fearlessly and working with universal flow rather than resisting; to really know ourselves – mind, body, emotions, spirit.

In our day-to-day these principles help us see, hear and relate with others more soulfully, even those we may avoid – getting beyond the reactions, assumptions and judgements that can hamper or have us avoid connection.

We’ve been working with this seed thought in our Conscious Leadership group meditations.  And it has helped me greatly in my day-to-day work when my initial reaction looked likely to unhelpfully overshadow the minutes and hours beyond.
